Six lives lost on roads

At least six people were killed and several others injured in separate road accidents in Sylhet and Sirajganj on Monday.

In Sylhet, three people were killed and two others injured when a brick-laden truck ploughed through a roadside motor workshop in Jaintapur upazila of Sylhet on early Monday.

The deceased were identified as Sohel Ahmed, 35, an electronics trader of Darbosta Bazar, Sultan Ahmed, 28, from Gachhbari of Kanaighat, and Ashik Ahmmed, 26.

Jaintapur Model Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Dastagir Ahmed confirmed the matter.

He said the brick-laden truck lost control and entered into the roadside workshop around 1:30 am, leaving the three people dead on the spot and two others injured.

The injured were taken to Sylhet Osmani Medical College and Hospital.

Meanwhile, three people were killed and five others injured in separate road accidents in Sirajganj. 

The deceased were identified as Md Shahin Hasan, 44, of Pagla Modhhopara village in Ullapara, Saddam Hossain, 32, of Choria Shikar village in Solonga and an unidentified truck driver’s helper (20). 

The incidents happened on Bonpara Hatikumrul road in the Mohishluti area between 6am and 7am on Monday. 

Officer-in-charge of Hatikumrul Highway Police Station Md Sajahan Ali said one of the accidents occurred as a stone-laden truck hit a vehicle that was carrying newspaper around 6am.

Shahin died on the spot, and three others including Saddam sustained injuries.

Later, Saddam died on the way to Sirajganj General Hospital.

Another accident happened when a truck collided with a courier service’s covered van around 7 am, leaving the trucker’s helper dead and three others injured, the OC said.

Police, on information, rescued the victims and sent them to the local hospital.

Police seized the vehicles from the spots.
