Police have finally managed to unravel the mystery surrounding the recent ‘murder’ of a woman at a residence in the capital’s Sabujbagh area.

The identity of the woman, however, could not be discovered yet. A certain Sazzadur Rahman, 33, took the woman, 35, who was a ‘floating sex worker’, to the house and killed her, as she allegedly tried to blackmail him.

The body of the unidentified woman was recovered from the residence at Shahibagh Bank Colony in Dakkhingaon of Sabujbagh on the afternoon of April 10.

There was no dress on her body which was wrapped up with a katha (a kind of blanket). There were cuts on the jaw and throt of the deceased.

Inspector (Investigation) of Sabujbagh Police Station Aminul Bashar told the Daily Sun on Wednesday that Sazzad, a tenant of the house, was alone at his flat on the day of incident. “Sazzad took the woman to his flat from Kamalapur area in exchange for Tk 2,000. After coming to the flat, the woman demanded much more money and tried to blackmail him.

“Sazzad and the woman were locked in a bitter conflict. At one stage, he strangled her to death,” the officer said. The police official further said that Sazzad made a confession before a Dhaka court just a few days ago saying he alone was implicit in the murder of the woman.
