The University Grants Commission (UGC) has found an unauthorised study centre is operating in the capital using the name ‘London School of Commerce’.
The study centre named ‘London School of Commerce Dhaka (LSC Dhaka)’ did not receive permission from the government and also the UGC to run here, said a UGC release on Tuesday.UGC sources said the commission found that LSC, Dhaka has been running its operation since 2005 and it has two branches- one at Gulshan-2 and another at Banani.
The unauthorised study centre opened a website -- www.lscdhaka.org/ -- and published circular of students admission.
The study center offers different diploma, bachelor and master and doctoral degrees under UK institutions-- Wrexham Glyndwr University, University of Bedfordshire and Scottish Qualification Authority.
UGC member Prof Dr Biswajit Chanda said it is a criminal offence to run student admission and educational activities at a study centre without permission from the government.
Dr Biswajit Chanda also urged the authorities concerned to take immediate steps to close the centre. He also advised all students and admission seekers to be aware of unauthorised study centres.
