A mobile court on Tuesday sentenced a member of a gang involved in cutting soil illegally in South Keraniganj on the outskirts of the capital.

Gang members were illegally cutting soil at Kandarpara of Kawtail under the Konda union of South Keraniganj in the morning.

On information, Keraniganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer M Abu Riyadh conducted a mobile court drive in the area.

Police arrested a person, Farhad Hossain, from the spot and produced him before the mobile court.

Later, the mobile court sentenced the accused to 15 days of simple imprisonment.

Police also seized three trucks and an excavator used for cutting soil from the spot.

Keraniganj Assistant Commissioner (Land) Monija Khatun was also present during the mobile court drive.
