Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has asked its standing committee member Mirza Abbas to show cause for his controversial remark on M Ilias Ali, the missing leader of the party.

In this regard, a letter signed by the party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has been sent to Mirza Abbas on Thursday, BNP sources said.

Party insiders said BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman has given the directive to issue the show cause notice to Mirza Abbas. However, Mirza Abbas declined receipt of such letter.

On April 17, BNP standing committee member Mirza Abbas hinted that some people from his party had hands behind disappearance of former lawmaker M Ilias Ali.

He urged BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir to find the culprits involved in the incident.

Later, at a press conference on April 18, Mirza Abbas claimed that some media distorted his remarks about the disappearance of their party leader M Ilias Ali.

BNP organising secretary M Ilias Ali along with his driver Ansar Ali went missing on the midnight of April 17, 2012 in the capital’s Banani area.

Since then, BNP has been blaming the security agencies for the mysterious disappearance. But the allegation was denied by the government.
