A Covid-19 patient died after allegedly jumping from the building of a hospital in the capital on Friday night.

Police recovered the body of the patient from the premises of Mugda Medical College Hospital around 10:00pm.

The deceased was identified as Hasib Iqbal, 50, of Cumilla. He lived in a residence in New Eskaton of the capital.

The body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for autopsy.

Proloy Kumar Shaha, officer-in-charge of Mugda Police Station, said a note was found in his cabin (No 1106), where he had been undergoing treatment since April 9.

“The note is unclear. It only says that I chose the path of suicide as per my own free will and bury me in the Islamic manner,” he said.

The man was unmarried and he has no close relative in the city, he said.

Hasib was admitted to the hospital by a distant relative, who works in the hospital and the relative took the body to the DMCH, he said.

“We have learned that the deceased’s elder brother, who also was unmarried, died a few days ago,” said the OC.

The officer said after getting the autopsy report, it will be clear whether it was a suicide or something else.
