Corona cases cross 16,700 in Rangpur

RANGPUR: The number of coronavirus (Covid-19) cases rapidly crossed the 16,700 mark in Rangpur division where the infection rate continues rising hurriedly again in recent weeks.

Health officials said the number of Covid-19 cases speedily rose to 16,732 as 67 more persons were reported Covid-19 positive after testing 381 samples with the daily infection rate of 17.59 percent on Thursday in the division, reports BSS.

“The infection rate is showing a quickly rising trend again and recovery rate declining in Rangpur division in recent weeks,” Focal Person of Covid-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division told the agency on Friday.

The district-wise break up of total 16,732 patients stands at 4,269 in Rangpur, 812 in Panchagarh, 1,444 in Nilphamari, 996 in Lalmonirhat, 1,059 in Kurigram, 1,580 in Thakurgaon, 4,997 in Dinajpur and 1,575 in Gaibandha of the division.

Since the outbreak of the pandemic, a total of 1,17,580 collected samples were tested in the division till Thursday, and of them, 16,732 were found Covid-19 positive with an average infection rate of over 14.23 percent.

Meanwhile, the total number of healed Covid-19 patients reached 15,750 with recovery of 20 more patients on Thursday as the average recovery rate is 94.13 percent.

“The 15,750 recovered patients include 4,039 of Rangpur, 777 of Panchagarh, 1,357 of Nilphamari, 959 of Lalmonirhat, 990 of Kurigram, 1,490 of Thakurgaon, 4,677 of Dinajpur and 1,461 of Gaibandha districts in the division,” Dr Siddiqui added.

Talking to the agency, Divisional Director (Health) Dr Md Ahad Ali said the number of fatalities remained steady at 318 with no more death reported from anywhere in the division on Thursday.

The district-wise break up of the 318 fatalities stands at 73 in Rangpur, 115 in Dinajpur, 34 in Thakurgaon, 32 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 20 in Panchagarh, 18 in Gaibandha and 11 in Lalmonirhat districts.

“The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.90 percent in the division,” he said.

Among the total 16,732 infected patients, 76 are undergoing treatments at isolation units, including 12 critical patients at ICU beds, after recovery of 15,750 patients and 318 deaths while 620 are remaining in home isolation across the division.

A total 1,675 registered citizens, including 934 male and 741 female, were inoculated with the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccines on Thursday raising the number of the first dose recipients to 5, 74,367 here.

Meanwhile, a total of 9,765 citizens, including 6,065 male and 1,900 female, were inoculated with the second dose of the Covid-19 vaccines on the first day in Rangpur division on Thursday.

“The district-wise break-up of the second dose recipient 9,765 citizens stands at 892 in Rangpur, 1,480 in Panchagarh, 1,316 in Nilphamari, 150 Lalmonirhat, 726 Kurigram, 592 Thakurgaon, 1,558 in Dinajpur and 1,251 in Gaibandha,” Dr Ali added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu said it has become crucial for everyone to abide by the health directives to check the hastily rising infection rate.
