BJS asks for VAT cut in upcoming budget

Bangladesh Jewellers Samity (BJS) urged the government to reduce Value Added Tax (VAT) on the purchase of jewelleries in the upcoming budget to 1.5 per cent from 5 percent.

Bangladesh Jewellers Samity President Enamul Haque Khan and General Secretary Dilip Kumar Agarwala placed the six points demand to NBR at a press conference on Sunday, said a press release.

They also demanded for reducing gold import duty to be fixed to Tk 1000 from Tk 2000 and also requested to discourage foreign investment in gold policy for next 20 years.

To consider the survival of the job of 3 million people and 20000 traders of this sector, the government has to cut VAT and tax on gold in the next budget.
