3.04 tonnes of polythene seized in Rangpur

RANGPUR: Member of Detective Branch (DB) of Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP) seized 3.04 tonnes of banned polythene from four polythene shops at Nababganj Bazar here on Sunday.

“A special team of RpMP led by its ASP Md Faruk Ahmed conducted raids there and seized the huge quantities of banned polythene from the shops.”

The raids were conducted with assistance of the officials of the Department of Environment.

Owners of the shops are Md Obaidul Islam, Md Aman Ullah Khan, Md Farid, and Md Abu Taher, of different areas in Rangpur city.

Later, the DB police filed four separate cases against the four polythene traders under section ‘4 Ka’ and ‘4 Kha’ of the Bangladesh Environment Protection Act, 1995 with Kotwali police station of RpMP.

“Similar raids would continue to stop production, stocking, transportation and marketing of banned polythene and bring the persons involved under the law of land to free the city of Rangpur from illegal polythene,” the release added.
