Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Thursday reiterated that those who are responsible for the incident in Noakhali’s Companiganj won’t be spared.

“Drives are going on in this regard. Those responsible for the incident will be brought to book,” he said.

Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, gave the warning while addressing a council session of Akkelpur upazila in Jaipurhat virtually from his official residence on parliament premises in the capital.

The minister made the remarks as an activist of Bangladesh Chhatra League was killed on Tuesday three weeks after the killing of journalist Borhan Uddin Muzakkir during factional clashes between supporters of Basurhat Municipality Mayor Abdul Quader Mirza, brother of Obaidul Quader, and Companiganj upazila unit Awami League Organising Secretary Mizanur Rahman Badal.

Mentioning that there is no question of sparing anyone involved in graft, irregularities and indiscipline, Quader said Anti-Corruption Commission and law enforcers have been asked to work on it.

Referring to the inclusion of dedicated leaders in the committees, Quader said dedicated leaders are the lifeline of the Awami League, so they should be inducted in the committees.

“All should have to avoid inducting opportunists and hybrid in the district and upazila committees for the personal interest,” he said. Reiterating party President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s tough stance on restoring party discipline, Quader said the organisation would not spare anyone irrespective of their post and position if they ignore the party discipline.

Talking about Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Quader said now the party is considering the people and the police as their rival after failing in the movement and the election.

AL organising secretaries Abu Sayeed Al Mahmood Swapon, SM Kamal Hossain and health secretary Rokeya Sultana, among others, addressed the programme with Akkelpur upazila president M Moksed Ali Mondol in the chair.
