Six killed in Bogura road crash

At least six people were killed and 12 others injured as a truck collided head-on with a passenger bus in College Gate area under Sherpur upazila of Bogura on Sunday.

“A stone-laden truck rammed into a bus of SA Paribahan around 5:00am, leaving six people dead on the spot,” said Ratan Hossain, station officer of Sherpur Fire Service and Civil Defence Station.

Twelve passengers of the bus were also injured in the violent bus-truck collision, he added.

The deceased were identified as Babul Shaha Bagha, 55, driver of the bus, Saddam Hossain, 50, driver of the truck, Idris Ali, 48, son of Rajab Ali of Sherpur upazila, Akhter Hossain, 55, son of late Mithu Sheikh of

Munshiganj, Yasin Ali, 65, of Shahpara in Bogura, and his wife Swapna Begum, 60.

The injured were rescued and admitted to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital.

Eleven of the injured were identified as Yakub Hossain, 42, Salma Begum, 34, Imti Haq, 18, infant Imtiaz, 18 months, Mizan, 40,  Firoz, 35,  Mousumy, 30, Parveen, 26, Laboni, 35, Nadia, 35, and Nafiz, 10.

Shahidul Islam, officer-in-charge of Sherpur Police Station, told the Daily Sun that the bodies were sent to the hospital morgue for autopsy.

In another incident, two young men were killed in a head-on collision between a bus and a motorcycle in Louhajang upazila of Munshiganj at the noon.

The deceased were identified as Sujan Bagha, 27, son of Sattar Bagha, and Forman Ali, 20, son of Quadir Hawlader, of Joynagar village in Jajira upazila of Shariatpur.

“The Dhaka-bound passenger bus collided with the motorcycle on Dhaka-Mawa Expressway at about 12:30pm, leaving two motorcyclists dead on the spot,” said Afzal Hossain, officer-in-charge of Hashara Highway Police Station.

The bus was seized, but the driver went into hiding.
