The decision on venues for Bangladesh’s upcoming matches of joint qualifiers round two for FIFA World Cup 2022 and AFC Asian Cup 2023 is likely to come next week, said a Bangladesh Football Federation official on Wednesday.
Asian Football Confederation held a teleconference meeting with the five participating teams of Group E -- Bangladesh, India, Oman, Qatar and Afghanistan -- regarding this issue.“We gave them a clear view of our present COVID-19 situation as well as the vaccination process. Other teams have given their opinions. Hopefully, we will receive an official decision within one week,” BFF national team’s committee and executive committee member Satyajit Das Rupu told reporters.
BFF is so far determined to host the national team’s home match against Afghanistan on March 25 at the Sylhet District Stadium along with other two home matches against India and Oman.
“The rest of the teams except Bangladesh wanted to play in a centralized venue. The other two matches, which were scheduled to be held in March -- India and Qatar, Afghanistan and Oman, postponed till June. These matches will be held in a centralized venue in June,” Rupu added.
Oman and Qatar earlier individually proposed to host Bangladesh’s home matches at their backyard on March 24 to 30.
