Journos protest at death threat to DRU ex-president

Journalists at a human chain on Monday strongly protested at the death threat against former President of Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) Saiful Islam for airing a story about corruption within the National University.  

They urged the government to look into the matter seriously and arrest the culprits for issuing the death threat against Saiful Islam, also the chief news editor of Boishakhi TV. 

The human chain was formed on the DRU premises at Segunbagicha in the capital.

Besides the DRU members, members of the National Press Club and the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists also attended the programme and condemned the death threat.

Presided over by DRU President Morsalin Nomani, journalist leaders, including Kuddus Afrad, Sajjad Alam Khan, Ilias Khan, Nurul Amin Rokon, Abdul Majid, Shajahan Sarder, Shafiqul Karim Sabu, Sakhawat Hossain Badsha, Ilias Hossain and Rafiqul Islam Azad, spoke among others.

Saiful Islam and staff reporter of Boishakhi TV Kazi Farid received two letters, which read death threats to the journalists, in envelopes of National University on February 1. Besides, pieces of shrouds were also sent with the letters.

On that day, a general diary (GD) was lodged with the Banani Police Station.
