15 eminent personalities condemn Al Jazeera report

Fifteen eminent personalities on Thursday condemned the effort of Al Jazeera Television to tarnish the image of Bangladesh airing ‘intentional’ and ‘distorted’ information.

In a statement, they said that Al Jazeera has a record of telecasting news based on ‘motivated’ and ‘false information’ centering trial of war criminals and Hefazat-e-Islam’s stance in Shapla Chattar.

This channel has been telecasting a series of propaganda campaign against our great Liberation War, secular ideals and overall progress. Recently anti-independence and anti-democracy forces have joined them, the press release said. Condemning the role of Al Jazeera television, the eminent personalities, including freedom fighters, educationists, doctors, journalists, human rights activists and artistes asked for proper steps and explanations from the government to deal with this misinformation.

The signatories are Shamsuzzaman Khan, Ramendu Majumdar, Dr Sarwar Ali, Abed Khan, Mamunur Rashid, Mofidul Hoque, Nasiruddin Yousuff, Golam Quddus, Dr Kamrul Hasan Khan, Ashraful Alam, Fakir Alamgir, Aroma Dutta, M Hamid, Bulbul Mohlanabish and Hasan Arif.
