Man killed by muggers in capital

A man was stabbed to death by muggers in the capital’s High Court area on Saturday night.

The deceased was identified as Hamidul Islam, 58.

He hailed from Academy Road at Kotwali in Mymensingh. He was living on Topkhana Road in the capital. 

Sub-Inspector Mohammad Shahid, duty officer of Shahbagh Police Station, told the Daily Sun on Sunday that some muggers killed the man.

The muggers stabbed him three times in his thigh, leaving him seriously injured around between 8:00pm and 8:45pm.

One rickshaw-van puller named Abdur Rahman rushed him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the doctors on duty declared him dead around 9:45pm.

The muggers took his mobile phone set away, but could not take Tk 16,000 in his pocket.

A case was filed in this connection. A number of persons were detained on suspicion. They were being interrogated, he said. Abdur Rahman told the Daily Sun over phone that he picked the injured Hamidul in his van around 8:45pm and took him to the hospital, but he breathed his last on the way.

The victim bore stab injuries at his legs and hands.
