Rapid Action Battalion-4 (RAB) arrested five alleged members of outlawed militant organisation Ansar Al Islam, also known as Ansarullah Bangla Team, in the capital’s Rupnagar area on Friday night.

They are Hasibur Rahman alias Sohel, 27, of Pabna, Mosharraf Hossain alias Atiq, 19, of Sherpur, Ramim Hossain alias Ponir alias Nahidur Rahman, 22, of Manikganj, Sajib Mia alias Khijir, 20, of Manikganj and Chanchal alias Abdullah, 19, of Manikganj.

Operations Officer of the RAB-4 Ziaur Rahman Chowdhury revealed this to the Daily Sun on Saturday.

He said on receiving information that the five were holding a secret meeting in the area, a team of the force rushed to the spot and nabbed them at about 9:30 pm on Friday.

During preliminary interrogation, Hasibur Rahman Sohel told the RAB men that he is a student of a private university and an active member of the outfit.  They were working to convince people to join their organisation.

Nahidur Rahman, who is a college student, was in charge of uploading various writing, audio and video clips about the militant outfit on social networking websites.

Sajib, who is also a student of a college, was responsible for collecting subscriptions for the organisation and Atiq, who worked as a security guard earlier, joined the militancy later.
