A businessman who was held hostage tactfully for ransom a few days back has been rescued from his confinement in a house in Dakshinkhan area of the capital.

The victim is Mihir Roy, owner of restaurant ‘Food Story’ in Uttara area of the capital.

Detective police rescued Mihir Roy and arrested two abductors -- Mohammad Mirza and Bristi -- from the house at Chairmanpara in Dakshinkhan on Monday.

AKM Hafiz Akhter, additional commissioner (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, disclosed the information at a press briefing at the DMP media centre on Tuesday.

He said police seized a knife, 57 electrical cable times, a screwdriver, a plus and Tk 49,000 in cash.

A man came to ‘Food Story’ and ate food on January 13. After eating, he praised its quality and standard and asked Mihir that he would give an order of 80 packets of food.

The man tactfully took Mihir to the house, held him hostage and demanded a ransom of Tk 20 lakh from his wife.

The abductor snapped objectionable photos of the victim and threatened to spread these on social media if he discloses the matter to anybody.

Mihir’s wife gave Tk 2.91 lakh to the abductor through bKash and filed a general diary with Uttara West Police Station.

After that, detectives began investigation and found the businessman and two kidnappers.

During primary interrogation, the arrestees confessed to their involvement in abducting Mihir Roy.

Police are trying to catch other accomplices of the arrestees.
