A rare example

Chairman of Bashundhara Group Ahmed Akbar Sobhan was born at Durgapur village in Bancharampur upazila of Brahmanbaria district. He has been running various activities in the upazila through Bashundhara Foundation to help the poor and disadvantaged section of people, irrespective of their ages and castes.

The poor and destitute are getting interest and service charge-free loan from Bashundhara Foundation. Insolvent people suffering from various diseases are receiving treatment from the Free Friday Clinic. The patients get prescription, medicines and other healthcare services for free.

The Bashundhara Group chairman has introduced Mid-day Meal at the educational institutions in the district to bring the number of dropout to zero. He has facilitated religious education by providing financial assistance for 88 madrasas and orphanages. He bears the salaries and other costs of the teachers and staff members of Bancharampur Sobhania Islamia Fazil Madrasa. He sends special meals to the children of all orphanages of the upazila twice a year.

Bashundhara Foundation grants stipend to the students standing first, second and third in the annual examinations. The sixth to 10th graders of all schools of the upazila get the stipends subject to brilliant results. Talking to this correspondent, former Joint Secretary and Bancharampur Upazila Parishad Chairman Md Sirajul Islam recalled Bashundhara Group’s contributions to the welfare of the country and its people. 

Alongside the government, the leading business conglomerate stands by the vulnerable people in every critical juncture of the country.

The group has set an example of charity, magnanimity and humanity amid corona pandemic. It donated Tk 100 million to the Prime Minister’s Relief and Welfare Fund. The corporate giant also dedicated its International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) to be used as the country’s largest Covid hospital and isolation centre.

Maulana Ruhul Amin Abdullah, principal of Bancharampur Sobhania Islamia Fazil Madrasa, said, “Bashundhara Foundation bears salaries of teachers and staffers of the madrasa and other costs, and provides mid-day meals for the students. I always pray to Almighty Allah for the welfare of the Bashundhara Group.”
