PM to lay foundation stone of Bangabandhu Rly Bridge today

Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujan on Wednesday said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will lay the foundation stone of Bangabandhu Railway Bridge on Thursday.

“Processes including tenders and contracts have been completed for the construction of the bridge. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will officially lay the foundation stone on Thursday,” he said.

Sujan, the lawmaker of Panchagarh-2, said this while inspecting the site of the railway bridge in Saidabad area of Sirajganj.

The minister said the bridge will be constructed over the Jamuna River next to Bangabandhu Bridge.

The construction of the bridge will start after the premier lays the foundation stone.

“The project will be implemented in Sirajganj and Tangail. With this new railway bridge, trains will be able to run at a speed of 100 kilometres per hour.”

The project is expected to be completed by 2025, the minister added.

Local lawmaker Habib-e-Milat, district council chairman Abdul Latif Biswas, deputy commissioner, high official of the Railway Department, among others, were present during the site inspection.
