CHATTOGRAM: A mobile court of Chattogram district administration on Tuesday fined Tk 1.40 lakh to ten wholesalers for selling potato at high price at the city’s Reazuddin Bazar.

Executive Magistrate Omar Faruk conducted the mobile court as the traders were not selling potato at the price fixed by the government.

The magistrate said the government fixed wholesale price of Tk 30 for per kilogram potato. But, the traders were selling the item at Tk 40 to Tk 42 at Reazuddin Bazar.

Even, the traders were not providing any receipt to the buyers, he said adding that the high price at the wholesale market is also causing price hike at the retail market.

The mobile court fined the amount to Cumilla Traders, Kusumpura Banijyalay, Rofrof Traders, Janani Traders, Makka Banijyalay, Abu Tayab Traders, Daudkandi Banijyalay, Shahab Uddin Traders and Ashish Hawlader Traders, the magistrate said.

Mentionable, the government has fixed the price of potato at Tk 30 for wholesale market and Tk 35 for retail market to check the price hike of the item having high demand throughout the year.
