A minibus was burnt in the port city’s Garibullah Shah Mazar area on Monday night, ahead of the three-day blockade announced by the BNP-Jammat and like minded parties.

Though the cause behind the fire couldn’t be ascertained immediately, fire fighters suspected that the fire was not a usual one. 

Sources said the minibus came from Patiya upazila with bridal party at the K Squar Community Centre, near the Garibullah Shah Mazar area.

Suddenly, a fire broke out from the bus remained parked beside the road around 9:50pm.

Senior Station Officer Khan Khalilur Rahman of Fire Service Agrabad Station said on information, they rushed to the spot and doused the fire.

The officer, however, said it was not a normal fire incident.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Dutta (ADC-North) of Chattogram Metropolitan Police said cause behind the fire couldn’t be ascertained immediately.

The driver and helper of the bus also couldn’t be traced, he said adding they were collecting the CCTV footage from the nearby areas.
