Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Dhaka University (DU) Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman on Monday said Durga Puja plays an important role in creating unity and harmony among the country’s people besides awakening humane, liberal and non-communal values, report BSS.

“The festival is a festival of harmony. The destruction of evil spirits and the worship of truth and beauty are the main features of the autumn festival and the universal festival further awakens our humane, liberal and non-communal values,” he said this after visiting university’s Jagannath Hall Puja Mandaps. Akhtaruzzaman said the Durga Puja is not only a religious festival, but also a social one which has now turned into a universal festival for the whole human being, said a press release.

The VC extended his heartfelt greetings to the Jagannath Hall authorities for organizing the festival amid the Covid-19 outbreak following necessary health guidelines and said it’s a tradition that Jagannath Hall organises and celebrates the Durga Puja in a colorful manner every year.

Provost of DU Jagannath Hall Dr Mihir Lal Saha, General Secretary of DU Teachers Association (DUTA) Prof. Md. Nizamul Hoque Bhuiyan, Proctor AKM Golam Rabbani, house tutors and officials, among others, were present on the occasion. Marking the Sharadiya Durgotsab, Akhtaruzzaman wished everyone, including members of the Hindu community, peace, welfare and prosperity.
