Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) has ensured cent percent electrification in 461 upazilas across the country.

BREB is working relentlessly to fulfill Sheikh Hasina's Initiative -- Power to All.

Under the supervision of BREB Chairman Major General Moin Uddin (Retd), a dedicated team is working tirelessly to supply electricity to every home, said a press release.

Considering the geographical reality of Bangladesh, 100 percent electrification in the shortest time is a very difficult matter.

But, due to the direction and strong leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, this impossible mission has become possible in a short time.

With a view to supplying electricity to every house of the country, BREB undertook the 100 percent electricity coverage programme marking the Mujib Year.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has already inaugurated the cent percent electricity coverage in 288 upazilas, while 173 upazilas are waiting for the inauguration.

Now, BREB is working to bring 1,059 villages under the electricity coverage shortly, the press release mentioned.

There were 240,000 consumers in the area in which BREB has to provide electricity coverage in three phases.

In the first phase, electricity coverage has been completed in 646 villages. In the second phase, 384 villages will come under the coverage by October.

They use submarine cable to connect those 1,030 villages with the main grid, while the rest 29 remote villages will get electricity with solar grid by this year.

With a view to making the country a ‘Golden Bangla’ as dreamt by the Father of the Nation, ‘Ghore Ghore Bidyut’ programme was taken up to expand rural electrification.

Despite many constraints, it has become possible to extend the power coverage due to the directives and constant support of the premier.

The electrification board invited educational institutions, district-upazila level public and private offices and village residents to apply for electricity.

To get the connection, consumers are requested to contact Palli Bidyut office directly and pay the fixed fees.

Under the time-befitting initiative of the authorities concerned, 100 percent electrification of 461 upazilas of the country was taken up through 80 rural electricity associations of Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) to improve the quality of life in rural areas.

At present, Palli Bidyut Samity team is working in the entire rural areas to ensure electricity connection and service to about 30 million different categories of customers.

“Mujib Borsho” is being observed from March 2020 to March 2021 marking the celebration of the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said 94 percent people have been brought under electricity coverage as the total power generation now stands at 22,562 MW.

The premier said that her government is taking various measures to increase power generation to light up every home in the country.
