Forty-eight more people died of coronavirus infection, 2,695 people contracted the pathogen and 2,668 patients recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours till Thursday morning.
The health directorate recorded a total of 2,24,889 cases of infection and 1,32,960 cases of recovery from the disease so far across the country.Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general (admin) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said this at a regular health bulletin from DGHS headquarters in the capital on Thursday.
She said 20.18 percent of the samples have been diagnosed with coronavirus while 1.31 percent of them died.
The recovery rate is 56.61 percent. The current case detection rate is 21.83 percent. Among the 48 deceased, 36 were male and 12 were female, while one was within 31-40 years old, four within 41-50, 14 between 51-60, 12 between 61-70, 11 within 71-80, five were between 81-90 and one was above 90 years old, Dr Nasima also said.
She said 14,667 samples were collected and 12,937 tested at 82 labs across the country, including in Dhaka, in the last 24 hours.
Bangladesh is currently 16th in the list of worst affected countries in the world in terms of the number of cases. The position is one step ahead of Turkey and one step behind Italy, according to worldometer.info.
The first case of Covid-19 was detected on March 8 while the first death was recorded on March 18 in Bangladesh.
