Nine people have been killed in separate traffic accidents in Dinajpur and Mymensingh in the last two days.

In Dinajpur, five people were killed and two others injured when a BRTC bus ploughed into a rickshaw-van on Dinajpur-Panchagarh Highway at Pochishmile under Birganj Upazila around 2:30 pm on Monday, said Abdul Motin, officer-in-charge of Birganj Police Station.

Of the five, three passengers died on the spot, the OC said, adding that the injured were whisked off to Birganj Upazila Health Complex where two of them were pronounced dead. Identities of the victims could not be known immediately.

In Mymensingh, four people including two siblings were killed and three others were hurt in separate road crashes in the last two days.

Two of the deceased are Joy Morshed Tusher, 32, and his younger brother Jabed Morshed Akash, 30, residents of Jamalpur.

The two siblings died when a covered van rammed into a Dhaka-bound private car carrying the two on Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway in Bhaluka Upazila around 3:15 am on Monday.

Joy died at the scene of accident whereas his brother and parents were rushed to Bhaluka Upazila Health Complex where Akash succumbed to his injuries.

In another accident, a CNG-operated auto-rickshaw driver and a passenger of the vehicle were killed, as a truck mowed them down in Merenga on Mymensingh-Kishoreganj Road around 11:30 pm on Sunday.

The victims are named as Hanif Mia, 22, and Ariful Islam, 20, said Monsur Ahammed, officer-in-charge of Nandail Police Station.
