Rabindranath Tagore’s birth anniv observed digitally

The 159th birth anniversary of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore was celebrated across the country on Friday. To maintain the social distancing and other Covid-19 guidelines, celebration programmes were held digitally.

Among the programmes, Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC), Dhaka organised a webinar titled ‘Tribute to Rabindranath Tagore- A ray of hope through Tagore’s Philosophy’ on the day.

Indian High Commissioner to Dhaka Riva Ganguly Das delivered the welcome speech. ICCR President Dr. Vinay Sahasrabuddhe was the Keynote speaker of the programme.  

Bangladeshi academician Fakrul Alam, Viswa Bharati University’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Bidyut Chakrabarty, Rabindra University Bangladesh’s Vice-Chancellor Dr. Biswajit Ghosh and writer, critic and translator Professor Radha Chakravarty attended the programme as guest speakers. 

While eminent artists of Bangladesh Rezwana Choudhury Bannya, Shama Rahman, Laisa Ahmed Lisa, Shahadat Hossain Nipu and others paid tribute to Rabindranath Tagore through songs and poem recitation on Rabindra Jayanti. The programme was webcast through Facebook page of Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre. 

Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar arranged different programmes to mark the Rabindra Jayanti. Different private satellite channel aired special programmes to pay tribute to the poet.
