Stadiums will be turned into hospitals: Zahid

State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russel said that all the stadiums of the country will be used as the alternative hospital facilities for the treatment of COVID-19 infected people. 

“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken enough preparations to face the crisis which arose due to coronavirus. We will use all the stadiums of the country, specially the indoor stadiums, as hospitals for the treatment of infected people,” said Zahid on Monday.

According to the Ministry for Youth and Sports, there are 80 district stadiums and 125 mini upazila stadiums countrywide.

“We have enough food stock. Don’t panic. Just avoid gatherings and follow the heath measures. The non-resident Bangladeshi have to follow the 14-day quarantine,” the state minister added.

The government announced 10-day lockdown to slow the spread of the highly infectious COVID-19. All offices, institutions, public transports, except medical stores, hospitals, restaurants, shops which sell essential commodities, retail banks in limited capacity and other emergency services. The lockdown will end on April 4.

The latest stats from the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) showed the total number of COVID-19 infected people in Bangladesh is stand at 49 with 5 dead due to the disease.
