The government has withdrawn Assistant Commissioner (AC, land) Sayeema Hasan from Jashore district administration for publicly insulting three elderly men.

The Ministry of Public Administration has attached her to the office of Divisional Commissioner in Khulna.

Secretary of the ministry Shaikh Yusuf Harun said departmental action will be taken against Sayeema after the holiday is over.

Deputy Commissioner of Jashore Mohammad Shafiul Arif has been directed to look into the matter and submit a report as early as possible, said the secretary. Further action will be taken based on the probe report after reopening of office on April 5, he added. Manirampur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ahsan Ullah Sharif has been instructed to apologise to the three men on behalf of the administration and provide them with face masks and financial assistance if needed.

During a mobile court drive to raise public awareness about coronavirus, Sayeema kept the three elderly standing and holding their ears for not wearing masks. The trio came to Chinetola kitchen market in Manirampur on Friday for various purposes. The assistant commissioner not only insulted the elderly, but also videoed the incident and took some photos with her mobile phone.

As the photo and video went viral in the social media, the incident came to the notice of the government authorities and sparked criticism at home and abroad.
