Private universities introduce online classes

Amid the suspension of academic activities, different private universities of the port city have started teaching their courses online as the battle against coronavirus.

The universities including the Chittagong Independent University (CIU), East Delta University (EDU) and Southern University Bangladesh started their academic activities online.

The authority of CIU informed that all the classes and tests have been postponed till March 31 as per the government order. But, they are conducting their classes through virtual platforms including Google class room, facebook messenger, viber and whatsapp.  School of Science and Engineering Dean Dr Asif Iqbal of the university said he was highly enjoying this new type of teaching method due to huge responses from the students.

“We have received huge appreciations from the students and the guardians for such initiative,” said the university Vice Chancellor (VC) Dr Mahfuzul Hoque Chowdhury.

Another private university of Chattogram, EDU also walked through the same way.

Every classes of the university are held virtually according to the routine, claimed the university authority.

The university founding Vice Chairman Sayeed Al Noman said that virtual classes are not a new term to them.

“We conducted this type of academic activities earlier in 2014-15 when the whole country was in a political turmoil,” he added.  Archita Chakrobarty, a student of Computer Science and Engineering department of the university, said they were worried over the suspension of classes for a longer duration. But, they were glad when the notice of virtual classes was issued.
