Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has picked up candidates for by-elections to Dhaka-10, Gainbadha-3 and Bgerhat-4 constituencies.
The party nominated its leaders Sheikh Rabiul Alom, president of Dhanmondi thana unit of BNP for the Dhaka 10 constituency while Kazi Khairuzzaman Shipon for Bagerhat 4 and Gaibandha district unit president Dr Syed Mainul Hasan Sadik for Gaibandha 3.The decision came from a meeting of the party’s nomination board after interviewing the aspirants at BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office in the capital on Monday.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced the names of the candidates after an interview by the party nomination board at BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office in the night.
Talking to reporters, the three BNP candidates said they are going to take part in the by-polls amid an ‘‘adverse situation’’ as part of their party’s movement to free Khaleda Zia and “restore” democracy.
Following the recently held elections to Dhaka city corporations, the BNP announced that it would take part in all the by-elections and local government elections in the coming days. Seven aspirants bought BNP’s nomination forms to contest the upcoming by-polls.
The by-elections to Gaibandha-3, Bagerhat-4 and Dhaka-10 constituencies will be held on March 21 as per the schedule announced by the Election Commission on February 6.
