Journalists working in Dhaka on Friday formed a human chain at Karwan Bazar in the capital protesting the attack on colleagues.

In the human chain, they demanded security of the journalists and exemplary punishment for the culprits who attacked at least 10 journalists including NEWS24 reporter Fakhrul Islam and camera man Sheikh Jalal recently while carrying out professional duty.

Speaking on the occasion, president of Dhaka Journalists Union Abu Jafar Surjo said, “We want security of our job. We are vulnerable on two sides; firstly we don’t get our due salary and secondly we are being victim of repression and attacks.”

“We are speaking in favor of people’s rights. But none speaks in favor of us”, he also said. He urged journalists to be united against the attack and repression.

Ummul Ware Sweety, treasurer of the platform, said “Ensuring safety of the journalists is the duty of the state.”

Around one hundred journalists from print, electronic and news portals and different platforms attended the demonstration.
