Chittagong University (CU) Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Shireen Akhter said an enlightened person can build an enlightened society.
She said this while addressing as the chief guest at a programme marking the golden Jubilee of CU Laboratory School and College on the university campus on Saturday.The VC in her speech wished all for achieving the milestone of 50 years.
“Education is the main component for developing a person as a truly enlightened individual and school is the first institutional step for this,” she said.
The university has been working relentlessly for developing human resources since beginning of its journey, she said. “The get-together organised for the alumni and present students centring the golden jubilee of the institution is a sign of unity against all the injustice, corruption, terrorism and militancy,” said the VC.
She called upon the teachers and guardians related to the school to play more responsible role for taking the institution forward further.
The VC also assured of taking necessary measures discussing the managing body to address the problems at the school. The chief guest later handed over crests to the retired teachers, officers and employees.
CU Students Advice centre Director Prof Siraj-Ud-Doula was the golden jubilee speaker while the CU Proctor S M Monirul Hasan special guest.Convener of the celebration committee Dr Pritish Barua presided over the programme also attended by the school Acting Principal Shamsad Begum Chowdhury among others. Earlier, the daylong programme was inaugurated by singing the national anthem and hoisting the national flag.
The opening ceremony was followed by a procession, cultural programme and raffle draw.
