Kings reach semis

Bashundhara Kings reached the semi-final, eliminating Muktijoddha Sangsad Krira Chakra by 4-1 goals in the tiebreaker of the nail-biting fourth and last quarter-final match at the floodlit Bangabandhu National Stadium on Tuesday.

The Kings will take on Bangladesh Police FC in the second semi-final on January 3.

The match was locked in a 1-1 position in the stipulated 90 minutes. Both the teams failed to widen their margin in the extra session that forced the match towards the tiebreaker.

In the tiebreaker, Kyrgyz midfielder Baktyir Duishobekov, Argentine defender Nicolas Delmonte, Captain-cum-Costa Rican forward Daniel Colindres Solera and substitute midfielder Atiqur Rahman Fahad netted goal for the Kings in the tiebreaker. Captain-cum-Cameroonian forward Biyaga Paul Emili scored the lone goal for Mutijoddha. Kings goalkeeper Anisur Rahman Zico smartly saved two shots from Muktijoddha’s Japanese midfielder Norito Hash Higuchi and local midfielder Md Tarikul Islam.

In the day’s other match, newcomer Bangladesh Police Football Club reached the semi-final, eliminating formidable Saif Sporting Club Limited by 3-1 goals in the 3rd quarter-final match at the same venue on Tuesday.
