Faulty tracks caused Sirajganj train crash

Says probe report

The probe committee has said the train accident in Ullapara upazila of Sirajganj district happened due to the fault of loop line.

Chief of the body Additional Deputy Commissioner Feroz Mahmud submitted the report of their investigation to Deputy Commissioner (DC) Faruk Ahammed on Thursday.

Besides, the body in its 29-page report drew up five recommendations.  DC Faruk Ahmmed said the faults in the loop line were responsible for the accident.

There was a gap between the two lines. That is why, the engine got derailed when it reached the spot, he added.  The DC refused to go into the details of the report.

The administration will reveal the details of the report after forwarding the report to the ministry, he said.

Earlier, the Sirajganj district administration formed a probe committee to find out reasons behind the train derailment.

On November 13, a fire engulfed the power car and engine of a train ‘Rangpur Express’ as it went off the tracks near the Ullapara Railway Station.
