3 smugglers held with 3.5kg gold bar in Benapole

BENAPOLE: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested persons, including a woman, in procession of gold weighing 3.5 kilogram from Ghiba bordering area of Benapole Port Police Station on Wednesday.

The arrestee were identified as Rabiul Islam, 36, son of Monir Uddin of RN Road area of Jashore, Dilip Kumar, 30, son of late Gahor Kumar of Ghiba village and Minara Khatun, 25, wife of Ramzan Ali, a local resident of Barachara village. They were smuggling gold to India for money for a long time, the BGB said.

49 BGB Deputy Commanding Officer Major Nazrul Islam said acting on a tip-off, a team of BGB searched a human hauler locally known as Mahindra in Amrakhali check post area and seized 785 grams of gold worth about Taka 42 lakh, Dilip Kumar arrested with 2 kg of gold bar from Ghiba border and Monira Khatun held with 700 grams gold bar from Daulatpur border.

The value of the gold is Tk. 1 crore 75 lakh BGB added.

The detainees were handed over to Benapole Port Police Station after the investigation.

Separate cases were filed with Benapole Port Police station.
