The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday alleged that the incumbent Awami League government is carrying on a rule of repression in the country.

“The incumbent government carrying on a rule of repression with the help of law enforcers in the country and people want to get rid of the situation,” he said in a written statement.

Mirza Fakrul also claimed that the government simultaneously snatched people’s voting rights and their civil rights.

The BNP secretary general alleged that the opposition leaders and activists are being arrested indiscriminately and being victimised of abduction, secret killing, extra-judicial killing and enforced disappearance by the law enforcing agencies.

“The government has established a culture of fear across the country and forgotten about the dire consequence of autocrats,” he added.
