AL infighting over sand lifting leaves 2 injured in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI: Two people received bullet injuries in a clash between two factions of Awami League in Fultala area of the town on Friday, reports UNB.

The injured are Swechhachasebak League convener Jubayer Hasan Johny, 26, and Jubo League activist Sujon, 28, son of Sirajul Islam of 28 Ward (east) area.

Locals said suspended ward AL president Abdus Sattar bought a dredger in 2010 taking money from some people to start a joint venture business of sand extraction. When the sand lifting activities was stopped the investors demanded their money back.

Injured Jubayer said when Sujon went to the dredging area Sattar’s men Toni and Doni opened fire at him.

They stabbed Sujon with a sharp weapon, he alleged.

Hafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Rajpara Police Station said he heard about the clash and the injured were taken to RMCH.

Police are investigating the incident, the OC added.
