10 days remand for Kalabagan Club president

Kalabagan Krira Chakra Club President and Bangladesh Krishok League central leader Shafiqul Alam Feroz, who was arrested last night from the club premises charged with the possession of  illegal weapons and drugs, was on Saturday placed on a 10-day remand.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mahmuda Akhter passed the order after police produced Shafiqul before the court with 20-day remand prayer in the two separate cases.

Shafiqul was put on a five-day remand in the case under the Firearms Act while another five-day  in the case under the Narcotics Control Act.

Police in their initial report submitted before the court said Shafiqul Islam Firoz in the primary interrogation confessed to raising and running a safe haven for criminals in his club, threatening people with illegal weapons and goons. He used to also buy and sell drugs like Yaaba tablets in the club.

Earlier on Saturday, two cases under narcotics control and arms acts with Dhanmondi Police Station were filed against Shafiqul Alam Feroz and four of his office staff on Saturday.

The elite Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained Shafiqul Alam Feroz and four of his office staff from the club on Friday. They also recovered a pistol and yaba pills from the Kalabagan Krira Chakra Club office.

RAB members also seized a firearm, bullets and Yaaba tablets from their procession.

Coins, scorecards, which are usually used in a casino, were also recovered from the club with 572 packets of playing cards.

Shafiqul Alam Feroz is also an executive committee member of the central Krishak League, a body of the ruling Awami League.
