A four-day director general (DG) level conference between the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and the Border Security Force (BSF) began at BGB headquarters in the capital’s Pilkhana on Wednesday.
BGB Director General Major General Md Shafeenul Islam is representing a 24-member delegation of Bangladesh side while BSF DG Rajni Kant Mishra is leading a 10-member team of Indian side.The Bangladesh team comprises BGB’s additional director general, staff officers of BGB and representatives from Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), home ministry, foreign affairs ministry, land record and survey department, Directorate of Bangladesh Survey, Department of Narcotics Control and Joint River Commission.
On the other hand, the Indian team comprises senior officials of BSF, home ministry and foreign affairs ministry of India.
The meeting is scheduled to discuss the incidents of firing at unarmed Bangladesh citizens, shooting them to death along the borders, abduction or detention of Bangladeshis, stopping of smuggling arms, ammunition, and narcotic drugs, illegal trespassing of the international border, joint efforts to stop crossing the borders of Myanmar nationals through the Bangladesh-India border, construction of permanent border pillar in Muharirchar area, various steps to save the riverbank on both side of the border and development works within 150 yards of the borders.
As part of strengthening mutual relations, the Indian delegation will visit various historical places of the country.
