Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Sunday said around 76 percent works of main structure of Padma Bridge have been completed.

“Construction work of Padma Bridge is progressing fast. Almost 76 percent work of main structure of the bridge has been done,” the minister said.

Around 55 percent of river training work has also been done while 100 percent work of the approach road has already been completed,” he said. “The progress in overall construction work of the bridge is 67 percent,” Quader, also Awami League General Secretary, said.

The minister said this while briefing journalists about the progress of the project at his office at Shetu Bhaban in Banani in the capital on Monday. Of the total 41 spans, 12 have been installed so far. The 13th span will be installed within one or two days, the minister said.

Quader admired Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for looking after the ongoing works of his ministry in his absence. “Remarkable development has been marked in all the projects, including Karnapuhli tunnel, Dhaka elevated express way and the Padma Bridge,” he said.

On Sunday, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina reshuffled her cabinet five months after formation of her government.            The cabinet was recast to ensure acceleration of works, improvement in standard and coordination among the ministries. It is Prime Minister’s jurisdiction to bring change in her cabinet, he also said.

Referring to Bangladesh Nationalist Party Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir for not taking oath in the 11th parliament, Quader said Mirza Fakhrul should have joined the parliament.

Quader joined his office at secretariat on Sunday after returning home on Wednesday from Singapore where he stayed for 71 days for medical treatment.
