Eid sales have started picking up at the popular shopping centres in the capital as crowds are flocking to the malls to get their desired wear.

Bashundhara City Shopping Mall, one of the country’s mega shopping destinations, on Friday witnessed huge crowds ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.

Traders at the mall said that it was the second Friday of Ramadan and people started coming to collect their festival wear. Expressing their satisfaction, they said sales have started picking up ahead of the Muslim community’s biggest festival and will continue to rise till the last Ramadan.

Most of the female customers prefer Indian three-pieces for its colourful attractive design over traditional local dress, they said. Every year, women give special attention to attire worn by the popular Indian actresses.

At the same, there is nothing new for the males as most of them prefer newly-designed colourful Panjabis at the malls.

“Eid sales usually peak after mid-Ramadan. We have latest collection for both men and women with attractive design and trendy. Shoppers are showing interest in our collection and we hope sales will get higher in the coming days”, said Navid, a salesperson at Ecstasy in the mall.

Shoppers said Bashundhara City Shopping Mall is their best buying destination as they get everything they need for daily life.

“I don’t actually like crowds and try to complete shopping earlier. I bought dresses this year considering the weather,” said Shammi Akhter, a shopper.

Meanwhile, most of the city shopping centres saw an increase in the number of buyers on Friday although sales started since the very beginning of the holy month of Ramadan.

However, traders are not yet satisfied with the volume of their sales. According to them, many of the shoppers who are visiting the markets seem to be window-shoppers.

Some market operators also expressed the hope that sales will get momentum in the days ahead.
