A mild to moderate heat wave is sweeping over several districts of the country, and it may persist, according to the latest weather forecast by the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) for the next 72 hours.

The forecast published by the BMD said a severe heat wave is sweeping over the districts of Rajshahi, Pabna, Khulna, Bagerhat, Jashore, Chuadanga, and Kushtia. A mild to moderate heat wave is sweeping over Dhaka, Rangpur, and Barishal divisions, the rest of Rajshahi and Khulna divisions, and the districts of Mymensingh, Moulvibazar, and Rangamati, and it may continue.

While the daytime temperature may increase slightly, the nighttime temperature is expected to remain unchanged. The presence of excess water vapour in the air may cause discomfort.

On Monday, the country recorded its highest temperature of 40 degrees Celsius in Jashore and Chuadanga, while the lowest temperature was 21.4 degrees Celsius in Tetulia and Dimla.

Additionally, the BMD forecast predicts that there may be rain accompanied by gusty or stormy winds, or rain with thunder, in one or two places in the Sylhet division. Furthermore, scattered hailstones may occur in some areas. Elsewhere in the country, the weather is expected to remain mainly dry with a partly cloudy sky.
