Suspected drug peddler killed in ‘gunfight’

COX’S BAZAR: An alleged drug peddler was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with rival group at Teknaf upazila in the district on Saturday early hours.

The deceased was identified as Sahab Uddin, 32, son of Abdur Rahman of Kanjarpara under the upazila.

Inspector Raqibul Islam Khan of the concerned Teknaf police station said on information of gunfight between two gangs of the drug peddlers at Knajarpara, a team of police rushed to the spot around 5.30am. Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the criminals fled the scene leaving Sahab Uddin in bullet-hit condition, he said.

The injured was rushed to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex where physicians declared him dead, said the inspector.

Two light guns, seven rounds of cartridge, nine rounds of empty cartridge and 2,400 pieces of Yaba tablets were recovered searching the spot after the gunfight, he said.
