CHATTOGRAM: Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni laid emphasis on attaching highest importance to standards of education in the private universities.
She said this while addressing as the chief guest at the first convocation of private ‘Port City International University’ at a community centre in the city on Sunday.The education minister in her speech said that the government has been focusing on up-to-date and quality education for transforming the population into human resources.
Private universities will have to ensure quality education, she said.
The education minister also observed that the main objective of the private universities should be developing good citizens and enlightened people through ensuring congenial academic atmosphere and cultural activities.
She also asked the universities to abide by the ‘Private University Act-2010.’
“Our young generation never bowed down heads to any anti-liberation forces, rather they made significant contributions at the moments of every crisis of the nation,” said the education minister.
A total of 2,088 students of 10 departments under different faculties of the university, which started journey in 2013, were given certificates in the convocation.Besides, seven students were awarded with Chancellor’s Gold Medal while 12 students with Founding Chairman’s Gold Medal.
University Grants Commission (UGC) former Chairman and former Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University Professor Emeritus AK Azad was the convocation speaker while Deputy Minister for Water Resources and Founding Chairman of the university AKM Enamul Haque Shamim, UGC Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan and the university VC Professor Nurul Anwar addressed the convocation among others.
