Another ‘drug pusher’ killed in ‘gunfight’

COX’S BAZAR: An alleged drug peddler was killed in a gunfight with police at Teknaf upazila in the district on early Saturday.

The deceased identified as Muhammad Hossain, 28, son of Nabi Hossain of Habirchhara area under the upazila. 

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Pradip Kumar Das of Teknaf Model Police Station said on receiving information that some drug peddlers were gathering in the hilly Habirchhara area, a team of police conducted a drive at the spot around 4:30 am.

Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the drug peddles opened fire on cops prompting them to retaliate with bullet resulting in a gunfight, he said.

At one stage, cohorts of the drug peddler fled the scene leaving him in bullet-hit condition, the OC said.

The injured was rushed to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex where physicians declared him dead, he said adding that three cops also sustained injuries during the gunfight.

A total of 2,000 Yaba tablets, three local guns and 12 rounds of bullet were also recovered from the spot after the gunfight, said OC Pradip.
