HC cancels suspect Ruhul Amin’s bail

The High Court has cancelled the bail it earlier granted to the prime accused in a case filed over gang rape at Subarnachar in Noakhali on December 30 last year.

A bench of Justice Mamnoon Rahman and Justice SM Kuddus Zaman on Saturday withdrew its previous order that granted bail to Ruhul Amin.

The same HC bench gave bail to the accused on Monday.

The state counsels detected a forgery committee by the defence counsel in securing the bail.

They drew the court’s attention to the matter. The court sat on a weekly holiday on Saturday and cancelled the previous order.

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam said he will petition the authorities to take action against the defence counsel and move the court to hold the defence in contempt of court.

During Saturday’s hearing, Deputy Attorney General Biswajit Roy told the court: “The defence counsels have misled the state. The bail petition mentions that it was submitted to the NX-17 court comprising Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Mostafizur Rahman. As a result, the copy of the bail petition was sent to deputy attorney general of NX-17 court. In this chance, defence counsels moved the petition before this court and secured the bail beyond our knowledge.”

Advocate Md Ashek-e-Rasul appeared for the rape accused Ruhul Amin in the HC.

While recalling bail, the HC judges said they will bring the matter to the attention of the Chief Justice for necessary


They also said the court will ask the Bar Council to take action against the defence counsel involved in the cheating.

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam said the delinquent defence counsel will have to pay for the offence.

Ruhul Amin was expelled from the post of Awami League publicity secretary of Subarnachar Upazila for his alleged involvement in the rape incident.
