Bumper lentil yield likely in Bogura

BOGURA: Due to favourable weather condition and timely supply of necessary agri-input, bumper

lentil output is likely in Bogura district.

Getting repeated bumper production and fair market price, farmers have shown more interest to bring new some cropland under the farming. The farming is expanding across district this season since its cultivation is easy.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh Agriculture Department Corporation (BADC) has provided quality seed among the eager framers during sowing crops. Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has also ensured logistic support for the rabi crop cultivation.

Farmers of the vast Barind tract including Dupchanchia, Kahaloo, Nandigram, Sherpur, Sonatola, Sariakandi, Gabtali, Shibganj and sadar upazilas have been engaged with the farming.

Besides, the farmer can

make double profit than any other short duration cereal in the region spending trifling money. As a result, farming of lentil is increasing gradually in the region with the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE).

“I have brought some 13 decimal of under lentil cultivation this season and expecting to achieve around three maunds of output,” said farmer Mubarak Hossain under Nandigram upazila. “I had got lucrative market price of the crop in the last couple of years.” he added.

DAE official said the growers here are showing more interest in lentil cultivation as it does not need much irrigation cost. Besides, they got abundant production in the last few years.
