Two ‘killers’ of Eden college ex-principal nabbed

Police on Friday arrested two suspected killers of former principal of Eden Mohila College Mahfuza Chowdhury Parveen.

 The arrestees were identified as Rita Akhter alias Shawpna,35, and Runu alias Rakiber Maa, 44.

“Shawpna used to work at the victim’s house as a domestic help and Runu used to supply maids to various houses,” said Maruf Hossain Sarder, deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Ramna Crime Division, while talking to journalists at New Market police station compound in the afternoon.

A police team arrested Shawpna from her village home at Fatepur in Madan upazila of Netrakona in the morning. Police recovered a gold chain, Tk 7,000 in cash and Mahfuza’s purse from her possession.

During primary interrogation, she confessed to her involvement in the murder.

Meanwhile, police arrested Runu from Mirpur area of the capital at noon.

On February 10, Parveen’s body was recovered from her Elephant Road house in the capital.

After the incident, two domestic helps—Rita and Reshma—went into hiding.

The next day, Ismat Kadir Gama, husband of the deceased, filed a case with New Market police station in connection with the murder.

The arrestees will be produced before a Dhaka court seeking their police remand.
