Naogaon farmers happy 
with coriander farming

NAOGAON: Winter coriander leaves cultivation has made happy over hundreds of marginal farmers in all eleven upazilas of Naogaon this season.

The farmers of district are getting fair market price and bumper production this season as favourable climate condition is boosting the crops.

They are seen happy while collecting leaves from the cropland since they are selling each kg of fresh leaves at Tk 20 to 25 in the kitchen markets across the region. The consumers of the area make crowd in the kitchen market to purchase the vegetable.

It can be eaten with all sort of curry like fish, meat and fry simultaneously. The demand of the vegetable is increasing day by day to the consumers. The clients seek the vegetable before all vegetable.

Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office source said the farmers of the district have brought over 190 hectares of land under advanced winter coriander leaves cultivation this season.

They had made a good profit previous year growing the crops in a commercial basis across the region, DAE added.

To make a noticeable profit more than 800 marginal farmers of the agri-zone are engaged with the vegetable farming, said sub-assistance agriculture officers. They have encouraged the peasants to grow the coriander leaves in a large scale as its boon heavy profit.

While visiting recently the correspondent found the peasants are taking care at the coriander leaves farms denying adverse weather condition. They are also separating weed from the land and trying to keep the land free from wet by any cost.

DAE official said farmers of the district show more interest to bring huge crop land under coriander leaves cultivation in a large scale to bring solvency. We provide all sort of necessary agri-input among the farmers, DAE added.
