Four deaths on roads

Two killed in city; two in Gopalganj

Two people were killed in separate road accidents at Khilkhet and Hazaribagh in the capital on Friday night.

Abdus Salam in his 70s was run over by a bus near Hotel Radisson at Khilkhet.

He was rushed to Kurmitola General Hospital where the doctors declared him dead at around 10:00pm.

 Khilkhet police said they were trying to nab the killer driver.

  In the meantime, an unidentified woman, 45, was killed as private car hit her in front of Shikder Medical College Hospital at Hazaribagh at around 11:00pm.

She was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the doctors declared her dead at around 1:30am.

 Bacchu, in-charge of DMCH police outpost, said they arrested the driver and seized the car.

UNB adds: Two people, including an NGO official, were killed and five others injured as a microbus crashed into a motorcycle and a van at Ratil in Kashiani upazila on Saturday afternoon.

The deceased were identified as Nurul Islam, 40, manager of Kathi Bazar branch of Jagorani Chakra Foundation in Sadar upazila and son of M Abdul Morol of Rupdia in Jashore Sadar upazila, and van driver Rakib Sheikh, 45, son of Noor Mohammad Sheikh of Dhankora village in Kashiani, reports UNB.

Officer-in-charge of Kashiani Police Station M Azizur Rahman said the microbus first smashed into the motorcycle of Nurul and then the van around 2:30pm before plunging into a roadside ditch after its driver lost control over the steering.

The accident left the NGO official dead on the spot and Rakib and five passengers of the microbus injured.

Doctors at Kashiani Upazila Health Complex declared the van driver dead on arrival after the injured were taken there.

The rest of the injured were later sent to Faridpur Medical College Hospital, the OC said.
